Patrick Bateman – Club Queen – Limited white vinyl out now!

Bateman-club-queen-1500

Somehow it’s been two years since Tic Tac Toe boss Patrick Bateman stepped up on his own label for a full release, but thankfully he now returns with a new single ‘Club Queen’ – complete with remixes from Frank Haag, Billy Johnston & Gennaro Mastrantonio – that reasserts his authority as the label’s finest exponent.

In original form ‘Club Queen’ is a deliciously deep number with ripples of chords rolling over its face, plenty of atmospheric ambiance and a slight sense of eeriness. It’s slow and purposeful, full of melting sounds and gentle rhythms and when the hi-hats land to complement the kick mid way through, it really drives on and takes you with it to the edge of the cosmos.

For their next EP, Tic Tac Toe turn to the pairing of US techno producer Billy Johnston and Apparel Music Limited boss Gennaro Mastrantonio, a duo who have done great work together before on Black Nation and are soon to release on Nicole Moudaber’s new label. Remixes come from Panorama Bar resident Oliver Deutschmann and label boss Patrick Bateman, with subtle and restrained deep house-cum-techno explored across all cuts.

Munich based producer Matthias Falkenstein takes the helm for the next Tic Tac Toe and is backed up by remixes from label boss Patrick Bateman as well as one from himself under another guise, namely Dimbidub.

With a vast discography that deals mainly in dubby techno for labels like Eintakt and Gynoid Audio, Falkenstein also heads up his own Diametral label alongside Oliver Roos and so is as influential as they come in the scene.

Clark Davis – Postman (Butane Remix) out on vinyl now!

c4_011_clark_davis_a_side

Connect Four returns with another tempting slice of wax (and digital if you prefer) from Clark Davis with his Postman EP that also includes a remix from Alphahouse Records boss, Butane.

Hamburg’s Davis has been crafting his own shifty Tech-house weapons since 2008 on labels likes Affin and Third Wave. His sound is deep yet propulsive and never relies on a single standard sound, instead Davis seems to make even the familiar sound fresh.

It is Butane’s remix of ‘Postman’ that opens the EP with plenty of criss-cross percussive lines riding atop a snaking bottom end. There’s an echoing, shady female vocal shimmering in the shadows as clattering percussion and techno leaning hi hat ringlets race forwards, too. It’s a track that bubbles and simmers with rawness without ever fully boiling over.
